The Chemical Exchange Network (CEN) is an independent network (not run by Bio-Link Depot) formed by educators to facilitate the informal exchange of laboratory chemicals used in teaching biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, and general science.

In practice,

1) A teacher that needs some “Yeast Extract” would post a request to the Chemical Exchange Network Google Group.

2) Another teacher that has excess “Yeast Extract” could respond with a donation, or an offer of trade.

3) The teachers could meet at the Depot’s Open House, or elsewhere, to make the transaction.

Additionally, teachers could post their excess chemicals, and a “wish list” of chemicals.

Information about experiments/protocols, lab equipment, and lab/equipment software can also be exchanged.

As more people join the Chemical Exchange Network, the system will become more effective.
