CCSF Clean Up CrewIMG_7295
A big THANK YOU goes out to the City College of San Francisco Chinatown Campus Community Service ESL student volunteers who spent hours on St. Patrick’s Day cleaning and organizing the Depot ahead of our March Open House. Check out the great pictures HERE.

UCSF Delivers a Truckload

After the March Open House, Delancey Street Movers delivered a truckload of large equipment and smaller supplies from lab breakdown at UCSF Laurel Heights. The delivery included refrigerators, centrifuges, cabinets, glassware and many other items. It’s first-come, first serve at our May Open House, so BYOT (bring your own truck).

 Depot Becomes Nonprofit

The Depot started in 2002 and has been operated by City College of San Francisco through the Bio-Link ever since. But, as of March 2016, we have incorporated the Depot as its own nonprofit. This opens up the Depot for direct donations, grants and expansion to other locations. Thanks Latham & Watkins for helping us with our application!

We are stocked up with great donations from UCSF, Genentech and others. Ready for the March 19th Open House. Good news — We will have partly sunny weather with no rain! Special thanks to: Duane, Tony and Innokenti. Also, thanks to Serina and Crystal organizing Pipette Land, Jeff (and his crew) at USF for helping with UCSF donations, Joe for a major truck delivery and a pre-thanks to the CCSF volunteers for this Thursday’s lab clean-up.

Something Fishy?Fish DNA ID

The BioCurious team, long-time supporters of the Depot, are conducting The Fish DNA Barcoding Class on
Saturday, April 9, 2016. In this workshop, you will find out the species of a fish sample based on its DNA sequence by bringing in an uncooked fish sample from your market. You will investigate of your local area to see if marketplace substitution (or something fishy) is happening. Sign up here–> Something Fishy?

UCSF Offfice of Sustainability
UCSF Writes Depot Article

The UCSF Office of Sustainability has written a great article on the Depot and it’s progress towards zero waste. Thanks goes out to Deborah Fleischer who took the time to interview us and for putting the word out with the larger UCSF community. And in case you did not catch the KPIX news story about the Depot, you can click on this link–>KPIX News story.

Thanks, Latham & Watkins!

Thanks to Latham & Watkins for helping Bio-Link Depot, Inc. to become its own non-profit! We  just received our letter from the IRS and they have determined we are exempt from federal tax as a 501c3 (public charity). This opens the Depot up for additional grants, contracts and direct cash donations.
